1

Market basics

What Borsa İstanbul is and how a share in it works.

A stock exchange is an organised marketplace where buyers and sellers trade shares, bonds and other financial instruments under a single rulebook, with prices formed by matching orders rather than by negotiation.

Borsa İstanbul (BIST) is the sole securities exchange in Türkiye. It was founded in 1986 as the Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) and took the name Borsa İstanbul in 2013.

A wide range of instruments trade there, including equities, government bonds, treasury bills, warrants and certificates.

Equity Market hours are weekdays 10:00–18:10 TRT, with the board halted between 13:00 and 14:00 for the lunch break, and a closing auction after 18:00.

Risk management

The part that decides whether the rest of it matters.

KAP is the primary source for everything company-specific. Financial statements, dividend decisions, earnings dates, general assemblies, material event disclosures and shareholding notifications are all published there first, by the companies themselves. This terminal deliberately carries none of them, because there is no free machine-readable feed — so read them at the source.
